3 Days Whisky Tour, Isle of Skye
Meeting point anywhere in Edinburgh. Other locations are possible, on request.
Recommended tour time: 9:00 – 21:00 ( 10-12 hours)
The Isle of Skye, or also known as “The Crown Jewel of Scotland”, is the largest and Northernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. The island’s centre is mountainous, dominated by Cuillin, the rocky slopes of which provide some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the country.
Archaeological sites indicate it has been inhabited since at least 7000 b.c. Even its name is not clear of its true meaning, as in Gaelic it gives the meaning of a “winged” shape. In a Skaldic poem, from 1230, contains a line that translates as “the hunger battle-birds were filled in Skye with blood of foe men killed”. In Norse Saga, Skye has the meaning of the Misty island. To say the least, there is a mythical aura about this island, available for you to explore and enjoy.
We are very pleased to offer you this specially designed tour, which allows you to discover Skye and the Scottish Highlands, for their natural beauty, Whisky making, Castles, lifestyle and history. The itinerary can be adjusted to your requests, at any time. Skye is about 5 hours from Edinburgh. On the way to and from Skye, we will optimise the itinerary for the most comfortable and full filling experience of the Scottish Highlands. Your Chauffeur will serve your requests, at all times.
Your personal Chauffeur will welcome you to our luxurious Jaguar XJ. Leaving Edinburgh and head to Queensferry, to see the bridges, just 20 minutes from the city, while enjoying breakfast pastries and freshly made hot coffee or tea, in the car.
Arriving at the William Wallace Monument, at Stirling. The amazing Tower sits at the top of a green hill and is a fine attraction that will enrich your knowledge and impression of the ancient battles and strive to freedom, lead by William Wallace.
Reaching The Famous Grouse Distillery at Crieff. Tours are available to offer Whisky making experience and tasting. One of the best in Scotland. You can also buy gifts directly from the maker.
By early afternoon we reach Oban. There are many options, from the overlooking Mc Caig’s Tower, the Dunollie Castle and Museum, Oban War and Peace Museum, the Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel and much more. One of the most popular destinations is Oban Distillery, giving you the option to explore Whiskey making and tasting.
Early dinner at one of the best seafood restaurants is a must, where you can enjoy from Sea Bass to Lobster, with view to the sea.
If time allows and if you would like to admire one of the most photo shoot locations in Scotland, we can make a little deviation to Glen Coe, for its stunning views.
Now heading towards Fort William and Spean Bridge, to check in to your hotel.
There are options for a late snack and even proper pubs, to enjoy local flavors and Whisky, just before you check in for the night.
Enjoy full Scottish breakfast at your comfort. Our tour now heads to the Isle of Skye. Just before the bridge that will allow us to reach the island, it is certainly worth it to visit Eilean Donan Castle. This 13th Century castle, one of the most iconic images of Scotland, offers a unique experience to see how life was in a real castle, on a journey that takes you through time and history.
Now driving over Skye Bridge and, well you guessed it, we are now officially on the island. You have many options of attractions and places to visit. We recommend for this 2nd day, to visit the two World Famous Whisky Distilleries of Torabhaig and Talisker, which they both offer their specialised tours, to enrich your knowledge and experience of Whisky.
On the same day and on our road, is Dunvegan Castle and Gardens. A 13th century castle, overlooking majestically the shores of Loch Dunvegan.
Checking in to your hotel. Dinner and a late drink are always an option, for some well deserved rest.
Start your day with hearty breakfast. Today we can continue and complete the Skye tour with it’s natural beauties.
One of the most impressing sites is The Old Man or Storr. It is the most photographed highlight of Skye. Movies such as Prometheus where shoot there. It’s a magnificent pinnacle of rock that stands proud and tall, visible for miles. You can walk the 45 minute way for the best viewpoint, and really do some serious photoshooting. A memory to live forever.
Just down the road, there is the Kilt Rock and Mealt Waterfall. A rare combination of basalt columns atop a sandstone base.
The other Skye Highlight exactly here, on the same location, is the Mealt Waterfall, which plummets into the icy sea below, with the Kilt Rock at the background.
Another option is to visit Staffin beach, where you may discover the dinosaur footprints on the beach.
Finally and before leaving Skye, a very popular attraction is The Fairy Glen, best to visit in a misty day.
As we leave Skye, there is the option to drive to famous Loch Ness and even stare for Nessie the monster. There is even a museum specifically for this, if you wish to enhance your knowledge about the lake, its history and its legends.
There also lies the ruins of Urquhart Castle, a once great stronghold with perfect views of the loch Ness.
Next we head towards Inverness for an early dinner, the unofficial Capital of the Highlands.
If the above natural sights of Skye and the Highlands are not your first priority to experience, there are more famous Whisky Distilleries to visit, such as Glen Ord, Cardhu, Tomatin, Balblair, Dalmore, Dalwhinnie amd much more. You may choose to visit exactly what you wish, as well as have a stop and a break absolutely anywhere you please, as your personal Chauffeur will serve your requests.
On the way back to Edinburgh, relax in our comfortable car as your Chauffeur will drive you to your door.
